AMERICAN LOGISTICS AID NETWORK BRACES FOR SEVERAL STORMS
Hurricane Florence has been downgraded but is still a life threatening storm. However, that’s not the only severe weather in store for the US. A number of named storms are also threatening the country and the American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) is mobilizing for action. ALAN activated a hurricane micro-site. This allow users to monitor the path of each storm as well as receive alerts and updates on transportation and supply chain conditions in areas affected by the storm. ALAN will also use the site to relay requests for storm-related logistics assistance. For more on this, please click here.

TRANS-PACIFIC PEAK SEASON KICKS OFF

President Trump is ready to impose further duties on $267bn of Chinese goods. European forwarders have not reported any congestion as yet. Nor are they expecting a repeat of the 2017 peak season delays and capacity squeeze. For more on this, please see The Loadstar.

It’s a year-round phenomenon and we are ready to meet that demand," Raj Subramaniam, executive vice president, chief marketing and communications officer at FedEx, said in a statement. UK ONLINE SHOPPING UP 9 PERCENT YOY
Online shoppers in the UK make 87 percent of their retail purchases — excluding groceries — online. That’s up from 80 per cent last year. The Royal Mail’s annual UK report found that the ability to compare prices and a much larger choice of products are the key reasons for shoppers going online. The report also found that 22 percent of UK consumers bought an item after seeing something about it on social media. In addition, the study found that men as a group spend more online than women. Men spent an average of £255 online over a period of three months. During the same period, women typically spent £204. For more on this, please click here.
